About Embrace HBCU Education

Empowering the Next Generation

Welcome to Embrace HBCU Education, an organization dedicated to advocating for the success of Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the nation. Our goal is to help promote the unique advantages of HBCUs, provide much-needed support to these institutions and their students, and highlight the extraordinary impact that these schools have on our society as a whole.

The Challenges Facing HBCUs

Despite the many advantages of HBCUs, these institutions face significant challenges that threaten their viability. One of the biggest challenges is funding. HBCUs receive less funding and endowments than their predominantly white counterparts, which can limit their ability to attract and retain top faculty, offer competitive salaries and benefits, and provide students with the resources they require.

Another challenge facing HBCUs is the effects of systemic inequality and bias. Black students often face higher rates of food insecurity, housing insecurity, and other economic setbacks that can negatively impact their academic career. Furthermore, HBCUs are often overlooked by donors and policymakers, as states don't always provide the total funding earmarked to them by the federal government.

How We Are Making a Difference

At Embrace HBCU Education, we are committed to making a difference by advocating for the success of HBCUs everywhere. We believe that investing in HBCUs is a vital step towards creating a world where all students have access to high-quality education and the resources they need to thrive.

One of the ways we are doing this is by donating all profits from sales of our signature t-shirt to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships, guidance, and other financial support to aspiring HBCU students.

Our executive director, Walter Hogan, is an HBCU alumnus himself, having attended Southern University. He is passionate about the transformative power of HBCUs and is dedicated to seeing them flourish.
